First, I want to say that Tapas has several fantastic bartenders. Every time I come in, I’m greeted with a smile, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. This isn’t meant to take anything away from the rest of the staff, they’ve always treated me well. That said, over time I’ve developed a unique connection with Jhonny. What started as seeing him behind the bar has grown into a genuine friendship, and he’s become one of the biggest reasons I drive nearly 20 miles, multiple times a week, just to come to Tapas. Sometimes it’s for a drink, and sometimes it’s simply to stop in, say hello, and spend time at one of my favorite places. That’s the kind of impact he has on people. I’ve worked as a bartender myself, so I don’t hand out compliments lightly. Jhonny is personable, professional, attentive, and genuinely cares about the people who walk through the door. That isn’t something you can teach, it’s simply who he is. A week or so ago, I saw exactly why I have so much respect for him. A guest who appeared to be in distress outside the bar needed someone to check on them. Because Jhonny couldn’t leave his post behind the bar, he asked me to step outside and make sure the individual was okay while he continued taking care of everyone inside. That level of awareness and concern for another person’s well-being says a lot about his character. Unfortunately, I also witnessed another guest (who I also consider a friend) behave disrespectfully toward Jhonny. Despite that, he remained calm, professional, and continued doing his job. Situations like that are difficult for anyone in hospitality, and I thought he handled it with a level of professionalism that deserves recognition. I’ve gotten to know the owners over time, and I hope they know what they have in Jhonny. Great bartenders don’t just pour drinks, they create an atmosphere that makes people want to come back. In my opinion, Jhonny is one of those people. He’s one of the main reasons I continue coming to Tapas, and I know I’m far from the only customer who feels that way. Jhonny, thank you for consistently making this place feel welcoming. Your professionalism, kindness, and genuine care for your customers doesn’t go unnoticed. You’re appreciated far more than you probably realize, and Tapas is fortunate to have you behind the bar.
Tapas is my fav bar in Waikiki. Always so much fun to play pool and hang with the best people there! I’ve met some of my now great friends there over the past year. Servers there are always so fun, sweet, and on top of things. Especially Jhonny. He’s been so friendly since my fiancé and I’s first time here and has made our Waikīkī experience better every time!
Tapas gotta be the goat of bars around, especially if you enjoy great service, and pool! Always a blast and the service is always top tier. I usually go during jhonnys shift and he is always great and makes sure to check in periodically. Cannot recommend enough!
The best gay bar in Waikiki. The events they have are super welcoming and so fun. It's a great place to come chill for happy hour or have a fun night out. The pool table is super fun too. But the bar tenders are all great and much fun. Love to sit at the bar when they work. Favorite nights are their bogo night and karaoke :)
Tapas has been my go to bar since I moved here two years ago, one of the owners David was so nice and offered me a coke on the house and I learned to be free here. Tuesdays and Thursdays are Karaoke night great fun and selection. The Bartender Johnny is such a great joy to “talk story” with. Overall the nicest gay bar on the strip,
