This was somewhat of a let down. I was hoping to see some really tall waves. I would guess they were around 5 foot waves today. I wonder if there needs to be bad weather in order to see the 20 foot waves that you see in movies and tv.
A famous surfing spot in the winter it can still be treacherous to swim in the summer. Waves were breaking hard at shore. Great sandy beach to sit and watch the waves.
Ehukai Beach is busy, you have to luck into parking. The beach is beautiful. If the waves are bigger than you, stay out unless you have quality swim fins and have experience. And insurance. The local little kids play in the waves there, but they're built different. You'll probably spot some pro surfers there, but give them space, they're feral. Collecting shells? Forget it, you'll only find fragments because the waves pound everything into dust, including inexperienced swimmers. Someone with a rental surfboard will get the attention of the lifeguards, or the coroner, if the lifeguards don't see them. That's winter surf. Summer is usually uneventful.
Visiting the Banzai Pipeline on a soft, beautiful rainy day was something special. The conditions were perfect—about a 6-foot break today—making it an incredible spot to watch the waves roll in. The light rain added to the atmosphere rather than taking away from it, giving everything a calm, moody feel. Even without massive surf, the power and beauty of the Pipeline are unmistakable. A great day to take it all in, enjoy the scenery, and appreciate one of the most iconic surf spots in the world. Roxy D
Surfers Paradise. The concave waves make it ideal for surfing. You'll find hundreds of surfers riding waves. Just sit and watch them hone their craft. The beauty of the beach is breathtaking. Don't miss this piece of paradise in the north shore.
