Mokulē’ia Beach Houses at Owen's Retreat

My family stayed here May 4-7 2026. This was a month or two after the severe flooding. The main road around Waimea Valley was one lane when we were there. Worth every minute. The actual beach houses are no frills but maintained, comfortable and had necessary features. No AC, but fans are provided and windows have screens. We felt comfortable and safe. DeeDee was extremely helpful and responsive. The onsite caretakers were also very helpful as well. The airport across the street is tiny and I didn’t have any issues with flights at night or waking me up. I have never been around so much wildlife before! Geckos, lizards, frogs, bugs of course, wild chickens outside of the property then in the ocean just steps from the yellow house we stayed in, there were two monk seal (3 live in that area), and one day we saw 5 sea turtles eating just feet from the shore in the water! The beach was the most fantastic feature of this property. It felt so incredibly private when we were there. The bulk of the time it was my family on the beach with no one else in sight. When others were there, there were few people. Just incredible. The sand was soft, easy to dig and build with. The kids had a blast. The ocean was also perfect for snorkeling. Just perfect. There is a cove right in front of the house that is protected from the bigger waves. I could go out quite far without being caught in any sort of current. The fish were excellent. But the real treasure was swimming with sea turtles. I swam with one for 5 minutes! I followed at a distance as it drifted along. It was magical. I could have spent all day in the ocean. Not sure what it is like at other times of year but early May it was perfect. We will return one day. What a magical experience!
