Hanauma Bay

Attractions Water Activities

Snorkel with over 450 species of tropical fish as well as turtles, octopus, crabs, and eels. Hanauma Bay is a protected cove just outside of Waikiki where visitors can safely view the colorful Hawaiian sea life. Snorkelers can spot triggerfish, butterfly fish, and parrotfish among dozens more species. The cove boasts a living coral sanctuary which provides protection for the colorful creatures that call Hanauma Bay home. Snorkeling is safe and easy as the cove naturally protects against large waves.

Hanauma Bay is actually a nature preserve that charges an entrance ($7.50) and parking fee ($1) to help offset the costs of maintenance and research. Don't let these fees deter you, however, as this well-known park has some of the best snorkeling on the island of Oahu! Upon entering the park you will be shown a quick 10 minute video that provides an overview of the park and how to properly interact with its fascinating sea life.

Go under the radar for a night snorkeling adventure, offered on the second and fourth Saturday with the beach open until 10pm. It's a whole different world underwater at night! The park doesn't allow additional visitors once the parking lot is full so its advised to come early morning or mid afternoon (as early morning arrivals leave). Amenities: Snorkel Gear Rentals ($7-$10), Locker Rentals, Bathrooms, Showers, Concession stand with snacks/drinks, tram service provided for a fee.

Opening Times:

6:00am-7:00pm in summer and 6:00am-6:00pm in winter.
