Located 1.7 miles up Puia Road and just 5 minutes from Hilo, Honolii Orchards is a family-owned farm surrounded by historic breadfruit, sugarcane, macadamia, and cattle lands. The experience begins in an elevated tasting room overlooking the orchard canopy with ocean and valley views.

Start with casual conversation before a guided orchard tour that reveals the cultivation and harvest of cacao trees. Learn how cacao fruit transforms into craft chocolate while exploring the region’s agricultural history, including the sugarcane industry that shaped the Hamakua Coast.

Next, experience the cacao fermentation process and gain insight into this crucial step in making high-quality chocolate. Return to the tasting room to explore chocolate’s history and discover the differences between craft and mass-produced chocolate.

The tour concludes with a tasting of 10 single-origin Hawaiian craft chocolate bars, highlighting the influence of terroir on flavor profiles. Additional samples include fresh cacao juice, roasted beans, chocolate-covered macadamias, cacao tea, and other seasonal fruits.

After the tasting, guests may purchase any chocolates sampled and are invited to relax in the tasting room or stroll through the orchards.
