Bishop Museum holds over 25 million items, from Hawaiian cultural artifacts and royal family heirlooms to native species from the islands and surrounding oceans.

Founded in 1889 by Charles Reed Bishop in honor of his late wife, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, last descendant of the Kamehameha royal family, the museum was created to preserve her extensive collection.
