Description
West Maui offers ideal conditions for new surfers, with calm waters perfect for learning. Group lessons include a maximum of five participants, ensuring personalized instruction throughout the session. Before entering the water, you will be provided with a surfboard, long-sleeve UV rash guard, and water shoes. Secure your personal belongings in designated cubicles at the surf shop.
The lesson begins on the beach with a 15-minute land session focusing on safety and procedures. Then, each participant takes turns catching waves under the instructor’s guidance. Waiting participants stay in a designated area until it's their turn again. Lessons typically speed up as everyone gains confidence. A professional photographer captures close-up photos during your session, available for purchase after class.
The full group lesson lasts 2 hours, from check-out of equipment to returning to shore. If you finish early, you can relax on the beach until the lesson concludes. Afterward, return gear to the shop and rinse off with fresh water showers. You may review and purchase lesson photos at the surf shop before you leave.

- Group lessons are for ages 10 and older
- Private or semi-private lessons are recommended for children 9 and younger
- Check-in is required 30 minutes before the lesson at 505 Front Street, Lahaina
- Participants must sign a liability release and secure personal items during the lesson
