Description
Your day begins with a late morning pickup from your Kona accommodation or nearby. Travel south through Kona coffee country and historic Kailua-Kona town, stopping at various scenic overlooks. Some of the best views can be enjoyed from your seat inside a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter.
The tour includes visits to a bee and honey farm, coffee samplings, a bakery, and a black sand beach, all before reaching Volcanoes National Park. Lunch is provided with a variety of options, including well-regarded sweetbread.
Inside the national park, explore caves, overlooks, the visitor center, and the Volcano House. Your guide will adjust the route based on lava flow activity to offer the best possible viewing experience. In some cases, a flat one-mile hike may be required to reach the lava viewing area; you will be informed in advance.
After the park visit, return to your seat for a drive to Hilo. Enjoy a short tour of the town and stop for dinner (included in the deluxe option). Depending on lava activity and the time of year, additional sightseeing may be possible before heading to the stargazing location.
The stargazing takes place at various locations near the base of Mauna Kea, chosen for quiet and dark skies to enhance visibility once your eyes adjust to the darkness.
