I have been twice which both for my in law's family events, yesterday for wedding reception. The food has been okay. Only items I liked were shoyu poke and sheared salmon spread with fried chips. Unfortunately the beef steak was tough and sheared furikake ahi was undercooked, lacked flavor. I barely eat touched them. Glad they had self serve options for water, lemonade, coffee, iced tea, their bar opened for cocktail drinks, but none for me since it was daytime event. The lilikoi cheesecake was not that great, had better desserts at hotel restaurants and other places. The servers there are polite and excellent waiting the tables and refill the food. Sadly, myself and my in-laws were not able to try the crab cakes since they were all gone by the time we went to grab our food :( The restrooms are by the entrance at top of stairs, 1 stall was out of service for women's side. Plenty of free parking especially at backside. That is always a plus vs paying for valid, parking garage or meter parking in downtown and Waikiki, Kaimuki, Ala Moana areas.
I recently celebrated my birthday dinner here with my boyfriend. We made reservations in advance and the whole dining experience & service was lovely & all the food was delicious - compliments to the chef & kitchen team. The beverage director Matthew took the liberty to light the candles on my birthday cake & had it sliced & plated for me - phenomenal job. Overall, I was honestly very impressed.
Dinner for four. Food was excellent, we all had starters (2 x escargot, 1 x octopus and 1 x crispy brie). The escargot and octopus are easily single serving but the brie is quite large and could be easily shared. Two of us had lobster bisque and the pear and beet salad respectively, which were good but not incredible; pro tip, they should definitely add a bit of crumbled goat cheese the salad and they'd have a true winner. Mains were 3 x misoyaki seabass and 1 x salmon - both excellent but the seabass was the clear winner. Service was friendly and attentive with a water glass never empty, but my one critique would be clearing plates before everyone is done the respective course. The dessert menu was uninspiring so we all passed but maybe something's delicious and we missed out? All said we had a great meal and would return.
I am so so grateful for the staff, chef, servers, and team at Upstairs! We had the private dining room reservation for our wedding day reception dinner and it was everything I imagined and more! Every single one of our guests LOVED the food and drinks!!! Our servers were so kind and communicative and let us celebrate our special day in every possible way. They had surround sound system for us to play our dinner playlist in the background, I was able to connect my laptop and share a slideshow on both TV screens, and my two friends were able to fully decorate the long table perfectly! We brought our own fruit tart, but the dessert from our "Le Petit" Prix-Fixe Menu was delicious. My family, friends, and I will be returning to eat more of their delicious meals and enjoy the company of this restaurant's team.
