Location. At the Crater's Edge is set on the slopes of the Kilauea Crater, surrounded by a towering tree fern forest in Volcano, Hawaii. The entrance to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is one mile away. The Akatsuka Orchid Gardens is four miles from the property. Punaluu Black Sand Beach, a nesting area for Hawksbill turtles, is 20 miles from the inn.
Features. This contemporary deck house, built in 2007, features open beam ceilings, Brazilian teak floors and custom made Tibetan rugs. Walls of glass doors lead to wraparound cedar decks, which offer intimate forest views. The property offers an outdoor garden sauna and shower, deck chairs and a picnic area. Complimentary breakfasts in the suites include bowls of tropical fruit, Hawaiian coffee, gourmet teas, yogurt and baked goods.
Guestrooms. Two suites are available in the house, which are also offered together to make up the Volcano Deck House accommodation. Both suites offer mini bars and mini kitchenettes stocked with complimentary wine, mixers, cheese and crackers, macadamia nuts and soft drinks. Mini kitchenettes inside hand carved teak armoires include toaster ovens, espresso makers and microwave ovens. Custom beds are dressed with tropical duvets and fine Italian linens. The suites offer high definition, flat screen televisions and Bose sound systems. All accommodations offer fireplaces and floor to ceiling glass walls and doors that open out onto the deck. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available. Spa bathrooms feature deep jetted tubs, separate stone showers with massage jet showerheads, vessel sinks and heated floors. Egyptian cotton towels and bathrobes, towel warmers and handcrafted spa toiletries are provided.
Expert Tip. At the Crater's Edge is located one mile from the entrance to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Designated a World Biosphere Preserve, the park features lava deserts where red hot lava flows into the ocean, active steam vents, lava caves and serene forest trails with giant tree ferns.
