After an amazing morning swimming at Waimea Falls, we stopped at Big Wave Shrimp for lunch, and it ended up being one of our favorite meals on the North Shore. If you’re exploring this side of Oahu, do yourself a favor and make this a stop on your itinerary you won’t regret it. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d hope for from a local Hawaiian shrimp truck. It’s casual, welcoming, and surrounded by the laid-back North Shore vibe that makes this part of the island so special. There is plenty of free parking, and they have several picnic benches both in front of and next to the food truck, making it the perfect place to relax, enjoy your meal, and soak in the island atmosphere. We ordered the Garlic Butter Shrimp, the Spicy Shrimp, and the Coconut Shrimp, and every single dish was outstanding. The Garlic Butter Shrimp was packed with rich, buttery garlic flavor. The shrimp were large, juicy, perfectly cooked, and coated in a delicious sauce that had us wishing we had extra rice to soak up every last bite. The Spicy Shrimp had just the right amount of heat enough to give it a flavorful kick without overpowering the natural sweetness of the shrimp. It was incredibly well-seasoned and absolutely delicious. The Coconut Shrimp was another standout. It was crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked inside, and had a subtle sweetness that paired perfectly with the dipping sauce. If you enjoy coconut shrimp, this is a must-order. Even the sides deserve recognition. The rice was fluffy, flavorful, and the perfect complement to the shrimp. The fresh salad was crisp, refreshing, and balanced the richness of the meal beautifully. To drink, we ordered their homemade lemonade, and it was incredible. It was sweet, refreshing, and exactly what you want after spending the morning hiking and swimming. It completed the meal perfectly. What made the experience even better was the service. Everyone working there was genuinely kind, welcoming, and friendly. They greeted us with smiles, answered our questions, and made us feel like valued guests from the moment we arrived. There are plenty of shrimp trucks on the North Shore, but Big Wave Shrimp absolutely deserves a visit. The generous portions, fresh ingredients, outstanding flavors, friendly staff, free parking, and relaxed outdoor seating create the perfect North Shore lunch experience. Whether you’re visiting after Waimea Valley, exploring the beaches, or simply driving the North Shore, make sure you stop here. It was one of the best meals we had in Hawaii, and we will absolutely be back on our next trip.

Supposedly better than Giovanni’s shrimp truck? Can’t compare as I’ve only tried here. I really liked the shrimp here! My fav was lemon & pepper, then spicy, then garlic & butter. Portion was pretty generous & loved that they allowed you to do half & half flavours. Also the pineapple that they give you, WOW it’s the best pineapple I’ve ever had!!! There’s benches for you to eat at & plenty of parking

Great garlic-flavoured shrimp. It's probably the best place to try it on the island. By the end of the meal, when the garlic is well-infused in the rice, it's a wonderful morsel of food.

My family just back from a week long vacation on Oahu. We stayed up in Wailua and Big Wave Shrimp truck was one of our ultimate favorite places to eat.. in fact we went 3 times! The shrimp is super fresh with a few delicious choices. Our favorites are the garlic and the breaded coconut! The flavor is just mouthwatering and we will always make this a priority when visiting Hawaii along with Matsumoto shaved ice!

Amazing family-run food truck that's been around for 20 years. We got the garlic shrimp plate (of course) and the teriyaki bone-in short ribs plate. Both were excellent and generous in terms of portion. I got double salad to avoid the mound of rice, and ate every single bite with gusto! The buttery garlicky coating on the shrimp was truly amazing, and the sticky sweetness of the beef ribs were welcomed. Condiments include hot sauce and soy sauce I believe. About 17-20 bucks per plate. Only issue were the plethora of flies and birds trying to get a taste of your food while dining at one of their tables - but that can't be helped!
