Iolani Palace
Hawaii
A Royal Palace in the US? Only in Hawaii. Iolani Palace was once home to the Royal Hawaiian family until the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani. Visitors can glimpse the life once lived by the Hawaiian Monarchy while marveling at the gorgeous architecture and ornate designs.
A guided tour or audio tour is highly recommended to allow the fascinating history of the palace to unfold as you tour room to room. A dedicated docent can truly bring your experience to life as they weave together the story of the Hawaiian people. In addition, either of the above mentioned tours provide visitors access to the first floor state apartments, the second floor private quarters, and the basement which houses ancient regalia as well as royal crowns and jewels. The basic self tour only allows visitors to enter the basement and gift shop.
You can visit the Iolani events calendar to find workshops, classes, and lectures in Hawaiian history, language, and culture as well as parades, live music, and the occasional festival, or dedicate a few days a month to volunteer at the palace.
Opening Times:
Monday - Saturday 9:00 am-4:00 pm
Ticket window closes at 4:00 pm
