Description

Don’t miss a thing as your favorite audio tour narrator guides you across the Maui's popular driving routes; Road to Hana, Haleakala & Upcountry, Iao Valley, West & South Maui. Follow our suggested itineraries or create your own half, full or multi day sightseeing. Maui’s beauty is obvious, but when you uncover the stories, culture and history, you’ll truly connect with the Valley Isle. Includes commentary for: Road to Hana Haleakala Volcano West & South Maui Iao Valley Road to Hana (3 Routes) Maui's most famous drive and absolutely an adventure, the Road to Hana begins over by Kahului Airport and follows the coast all the way to Hana. You'll be driving along the side of the massive Haleakala Volcano to the quietly authentic town of Hana. Then, it's recommended to continue for another 45 minutes or so past Hana to the Oheo Pools. The road is famous for its rainforest, picturesque waterfalls, black sand beach and much more. Equally famous is the driving itself, on a road that winds its way through hundreds of curves and crosses 61 bridges along the way. Major Highlights: Hamoa Beach Hana Ho'okipa Beach Ke’anae Arboretum Ke’anae Peninsula Koki Beach Alau Island Lava Tube Paia Oheo Gulch (7 Sacred Pools) Pipiwai Trail Upper Waikani Falls (3 Bears) Rainbow Eucalyptus Twin Falls Wai’anapanapa State Park (Black Sand Beach) Wailua Falls Haleakala The south and eastern part of Maui is dominated by the 10,000 foot tall dormant volcano - Haleakala. It's like nowhere else in that you can drive from sea level to the summit in about two hours. And when you get there, the scenery and environment are stunning. Going to watch sunrise from Haleakala is popular and you must book your space in advance. But visiting at any time of day is very worthwhile. Major Highlights: Haleakala Summit and Crater Hosmers Grove Kalahaku Overlook Nene Geese Pukalani Silversword Makawao – Upcountry West Maui West Maui describes the area from Ma'alaea all the way north along the coast through Ka'anapali, Kapalua and Honolua Bay. This region is filled with popular resorts, beaches, Hawaiian historical and cultural sites and even a terrific blowhole. Major Highlights: Nakalele Blowhole Honolua Bay DT Fleming Park and Beach Ka’anapali Olawalu Mile 8 (Whale) Lookout Ma’alaea & Maui Ocean Center South Maui Kihei and the high-end resort area of Wailea. Kihei is a popular area to explore with many good snorkelling areas, sandy beaches that you can take a long walk on and enjoy a sunset. There's also many mini malls for shopping and dining. Immediately south of Kihei is Wailea which has some magnificent cove beaches and superb snorkeling where you can cruise around with the local turtles. Continue south for the favorite beaches of Maui locals at Makena. And if you are the type who likes to drive to the end of the road - continue all the way to La Perouse Bay, for more snorkelling and the see the site of the last big lava flow on Maui. Major Highlights: Kihei Kamaole Beach Parks Wailea Turtle Town Makena Beaches La Perouse Bay Central Maui Central Maui is there part of the island that sits in the isthmus, or flat area between the two giant volcanoes that form the island. Mostly you will use this area to drive from the resort towns, across to join the Road to Hana and Haleakala tours, and for the airport. But there is some good sightseeing here too. The Iao Needle features a towering volcanic spire and is one of the wettest places on the planet. There's also tropical fruit farms, Maui's shopping areas and the Ocean Center. Major Highlights: Iao Valley and Needle Kepaniwai Park Kahului Shopping Maui Tropical Plantation Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum
